No accounts, no stored estimates
You don't sign in, and we don't keep the shapes you draw. An estimate you share lives entirely in the link itself.
Local rules check
The "Check local rules" button shows you a question first. Only if you then choose "Copy and open Duck.ai" does it open DuckDuckGo's Duck.ai in a new window with that question, which includes the location you picked (street address, county and state, state, or ZIP code) and the design's numbers. Nothing is sent otherwise. To find your county, the page may send the site's location, rounded to about 100 m, through our server to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Address searches
When you search for an address, the street and ZIP code (or city and state) you enter go through our server to the U.S. Census Bureau geocoder, and if that finds nothing, to Photon, an OpenStreetMap search service run by Komoot. While you type a street, what you've typed so far is sent from your browser directly to Photon to suggest matches. ZIP code searches go from your browser directly to the Census Bureau's TIGERweb map service. We don't log the searches. Identical searches are cached for up to a day so the services aren't asked twice. "Use my location" asks your browser for your position and uses it only to move the map; it is not sent to us.
Terrain and imagery
Your browser downloads lidar terrain directly from the U.S. Geological Survey and map imagery from USGS map servers. Those requests go from your browser to USGS, which sees your IP address like any website you visit. Downloaded terrain is cached in your browser so repeat views are faster; clearing site data removes it.
